Someone had to
set the first table

I’m Joelle. I’ve spent my career on the unglamorous side of gathering people: the run-of-show, the load-in, the clipboard, the folding table at 6am.

After two decades in this world, I learned something. The magic of a good community event is never a single table. It’s the crowd moving between them: the person who came for one thing and left having found three others, and the sellers who become each other’s regulars and collaborators.

Almost every creator I know has wanted a room of their own, and most never build one. It isn’t for lack of vision. It’s that the practice itself, the thing that made them start in the first place, ends up being the smallest part of the day. Everything else piles on top of it: the scheduling, the payments, the moderation, the endless posting just to stay visible. Scaffolding, all of it.

Scaffolding is the sort of thing you can hand to somebody else. I take it on so your attention stays where it began: your people gathering properly, new people finding you without an algorithm’s permission, and the other creators doing this work finally within reach. Nobody here has to keep their own fire going alone. Call that logistics or call it care; I have never been able to tell the two apart.

But the part I am really here for is in the name. A collective is people in the same room. A collaborative is what they build once they are in it, together and on purpose. Sparks are easy to gather. What I want is what they make when they start working with each other.

Not a keyword filter, and not a form scored by software. We’re building for range rather than uniformity, so what matters is whether the practice is real, creative and held responsibly, not whether it is polished.

Build your profile, list your offerings, connect your calendar, set your own prices. We’ll sit with you for the first one so it isn’t another piece of software you have to learn alone.

want to know

Do I need a following to be accepted?

No. We are not counting anyone’s followers. A small practice held well is worth more here than a large audience held loosely, and plenty of the most interesting people we know are terrible at posting.

What does it cost?

Applying costs nothing. If you join as a creator there is a flat fee, and that is the whole of it. It exists so the running costs of the place are carried collectively rather than landing on whoever happens to be busiest that month.

The Coven Collaborative takes no percentage and no additional fees on anything you make here. What you charge is what you keep. And anyone coming simply to attend and take part has free access to the platform, so the money they do spend goes to the creators who called to them rather than to us.

My work doesn’t fit any of those themes. Is that a problem?

It is closer to a recommendation. The themes are a map, not a gate, and most people sit across several of them anyway. If yours is genuinely somewhere else, say so on the form and we will work it out together.

Do I have to leave the platforms I already use?

Not at all. Keep your newsletter, your studio, your group chat, whatever is already working. This is somewhere your work can be found by people who weren’t going to find it otherwise, not a replacement for what you have built.

I’m not a practitioner. Can I still join?

Yes, and a good number of people arrive that way. Come and wander, sit in on things, meet people. Plenty of tables here were set by someone who turned up as a visitor first and discovered they had something to offer.

How much of my time will this take?

As much or as little as you want. Some people run something every week, others surface a few times a year. Nobody is ranked for showing up more, and nothing here punishes you for going quiet while you tend to your own life.
